Paul S. Berger’s Legacy: A Family’s Dedication to CESJDS

Paul S. Berger surrounded by his family

Paul S. Berger (z”l) was a man of deep conviction, generous spirit, and unwavering dedication to Jewish education. As a past president of CESJDS, he believed in the transformative power of a Jewish education—not just for his own children but for generations to come. Together with his wife, Debra (z"l), Paul made it his mission to strengthen the school’s future, ensuring that every student has access to the rigorous academics, vibrant Jewish life, and strong sense of community that defines CESJDS.

When Paul and Debra began planning for the future, it was clear that CESJDS would remain central to their legacy. Through a planned gift, Paul ensured that his and Debra’s lifelong commitment to the school would continue in perpetuity. Their generous bequest will support the next generation of students, empowering them to grow as leaders, thinkers, and engaged members of the Jewish community.

“Our parents instilled in us a love of education, a love of Judaism, and a love for Israel,” shared Jessica Berger Weiss ’80. “The school gave our children a strong foundation in their Jewish identity and an excellent education that prepared them for successful futures.”

Meryl Berger Rosenberg ’78 added, “We are grateful that our parents had the vision and drive to help establish CESJDS. As it is said in Pirkei Avot, ‘You are not required to complete the work, but neither are you free to desist from it.’ ”

Lou Berger ’83 reflected, “CESJDS has been the cornerstone for 12 of our family members’ education, identity, and community connection. We look forward to CESJDS continuing to demonstrate our parents' vision for future generations.”

Paul and Debra’s children and grandchildren, proud CESJDS alumni, carry forward their love for the school, ensuring that their legacy endures.
